This delightful random stone cottage was built by a recently arrived stone mason to house his own family. It has been restored with care to retain its historical atmosphere and character while offering modern comforts. The cottage and William St itself are recorded by the National Trust and are the located in Port Fairy’s historic precinct.
The cottage contains 3 bedrooms, sitting room and large kitchen. No.1 is a classic 4 room workman’s cottage with a passage down the centre. The front two rooms comprise main bedroom with queen bed and comfortable and cozy sitting room with open fire. Two bedrooms behind contain a double bed and king size bed with trundle. A light and spacious living area across the full width of the cottage incorporates the 1880s kitchen and has a wood fire and french doors opening to a private sheltered garden, perfect for an evening BBQ or relaxing with a book in the sun.
In 2025 No1 has been again assessed as a Quality Tourism Business under the requirements of the Australian Tourism Industry Council’s Quality Tourism Framework. We also have accreditation as a Sustainable Tourism Business meaning , that we “create high quality, engaging, and memorable visitor experiences”. These accreditations give us a presence on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse and also visitvictoria.com
